Because most of us who gain back the weight lost on the Atkins diet have done so by leaving Atkins and not counting calories. The after Atkins diet gain can be prevented by simply watching calories. The downside to Atkins is that we get used to not counting calories, however this is crating a bad habit that can sink our efforts the second we leave Atkins, though this does not have to be the case.
